Stolpman
Sitting in the heart of Ballard Canyon appellation, Stolpman Vineyard is a triumph of diverse and unique plantings that no other vineyard shares. Over many years, the Stolpmans have brought in a handful of suitcase clones from some of the most prestigious vineyards in the Rhone that they then propagated and acclimated to their unique blend of limestone and chalk soils with a thin clay top soil. If there is one thing we love it is plant material that has a lineage and origin story that is both uncommon and special. It is both inspiring and motivating.
Over the course of many in depth conversations with the Stolpman vineyard team our focus quickly became positioning ourselves within the vineyard blocks where heritage clones had been planted that would lend themselves to our particular bold yet ethereal style of winemaking. What we wound up with is a handful of diverse blocks, focusing on Syrah, each with a unique aspect and soil that creates both a harmonic and complex pallet with which we can paint.
